The South Wales LUPUS Group has been running for the past 25 years and supports LUPUS patients within the South Wales area. The Committee currently consists of 11 members representing approximately 190 members within the South Wales area. We meet on a quarterly basis at the Copthorne Hotel, Culverhouse Cross, Cardiff where we discuss general matters, future fund raising events and correspondence and contacts received within the quarter.
We issue a quarterly newsletter to all of our members providing information and details of forthcoming events. A yearly Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held in April at the above hotel and all members are invited. This gives members the opportunity to meet fellow Lupus sufferers and also learn new information from our guest speakers and news regarding the South Wales LUPUS group and LUPUS UK.
We have close links with LUPUS UK and our Chairman, David Clarke is a Trustee of LUPUS UK.
LUPUS UK is the only national registered charity supporting people with systemic lupus and discoid lupus and assisting those approaching diagnosis. We presently have over 7,500 Members and 30 Regional Groups who arrange medical talks, publish local newsletters, set up local occasions and organise fundraising events. LUPUS UK also produces an informative national magazine with lupus articles, letters, reports, and photographs, and operates a strong Grant Programme for research purposes and welfare.
LUPUS UK's priorities are:
- to help the lupus patient who may feel alone and isolated
- to assist those in need as they seek a diagnosis
- to inform the public and the medical profession about lupus
- to improve national awareness about lupus and its impact
- to maintain a network of Regional Groups and Contacts
- to fund further research into the causes and towards a cure
